Aaron Ramsey is a midfielder for Arsenal in the English Premier League. In the past he has been utilised as a wing-back, where his speed and attacking nature have gain his many plaudits, but it is in the centre of midfield, where he can use his passing and creative abilities, that Ramsey shines.
Aaron Ramsey was born on 26th December 1990 in Caerphilly, Wales. He has one younger brother, and enjoyed a happy childhood playing both football and Rugby. He supported Manchester United and his favourite player was Welsh legend Ryan Giggs. He was once offered a trial at St Helens Rugby club, but turned the offer down because he wanted to concentrate on making it as a footballer.
Ramsey is fluent in both English and Welsh, something that has helped him gain the respect of his fellow Welsh international footballers.
Aaron Ramsey began his club football career at the age of eight, when he signed with his local team Cardiff City FC. He progressed through the youth ranks, and made such an impact in the academy and reserve teams that he was given his debut at just 16 years old – becoming the youngest player ever to don the Cardiff shirt in April 2007.
At the end of the season, Ramsey had made enough of an impression to prompt an unnamed London club to make a bid, and to bring forward Everton’s plans to monitor the situation and buy him at some point in the future. Cardiff rejected both of these £1m+ offers, and Ramsey was happy to stay and gain some precious match experience.
Ramsey finally signed a professional contract with Cardiff in December 2007, and made his first start for the Bluebirds just days later, making the dream start to his career by scoring the winning goal against non-league opposition in the FA Cup. He played regularly for the rest of the season, and his talents were show-cased in the FA Cup Final, which prompted many Premier League clubs to make offers that were too good for Cardiff to refuse – amongst them Manchester United, Everton and Arsenal.
It was ultimately Arsene Wenger’s belief in Ramsey that made him choose to go to Arsenal – and the fact that Ramsey was flown out to watch some Euro 2008 football matches whilst negotiations were taking place!
In June 2008 Aaron Ramsey signed for Arsenal, and has since flourished, although he is yet to become a regular Premier League starter. Most of his appearances have come in the Carling Cup, where Arsenals’ young guns impressed, although he has also featured in the Champions League – scoring his first Arsenal goal in their away victory over Fenerbahce.
