SZCZESNY WELCOMES POGBA AS HE PONDERS AARON RAMSEY FUTURE

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insists his side would all welcome the Paul Pogba transfer, having ridiculed claims the midfielder is past his best. The 29-year-old star is a free agent this summer with his Manchester United exit now officially confirmed. The World Cup winner failed to consistently hit the heights at Old Trafford and walks away six years after a world-record £89.3m switch there from Juventus.

However, despite his inconsistencies, Pogba remains very much a man in demand. To that end, some of Europe’s top clubs remain on his trail, with Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus among those keen. However, it is Juventus who have emerged from the shadows to lead the chase for their former star. The Bianconeri have an excellent record over the years of signing some of the game’s top free agents. And while doubts have been expressed over whether Pogba is now past his best, Szczesny is adamant his capture will be welcomed by all at the club. VAN BRONCKHORST HAILS RAMSEY’S BRAVERY TO TAKE PENALTY

Giovanni van Bronckhorst last night praised Aaron Ramsey for having the bravery to take a penalty kick in the shoot-out that decided the Europa League final in Seville following Rangers’ agonising defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ramsey, who had come on for Fashion Sakala towards the end of the second period of extra-time in the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, saw his weak attempt to score from 12 yards blocked by opposition keeper Kevin Trapp. Filip Kostic and Rafael Borre, who had cancelled out Joe Aribo’s second-half opener to force extra-time, then buried their own efforts to give Oliver Glasner’s side a hard-fought 5-4 victory.


It was an agonising moment for the vastly-experienced Welsh internationalist, who has been bedevilled by injuries since moving to Ibrox on loan from Italian giants Juventus back in January, as he had been sent on specifically to take a penalty.
