GERS STAR OUTLASTS PARENT CLUB IN EUROPE AMID UCL UPSET

Plenty might not have thought Aaron Ramsey would outlast Juventus in Europe when he signed for Rangers on loan in January – but that’s exactly what has happened. The Italian giants are licking their wounds following a surprise Champions League exit at the hands of La Liga side Villarreal, who put in a monumental performance to win 3-0 in Italy.

With the game neatly poised following a 1-1 draw in Spain, the game looked to be heading towards extra time before a late flurry put Max Allegri’s side to the sword. Gerard Moreno opened the scoring in the 78th minute before Pau Torres had Villarreal in dreamland and Arnaut Danjuma completed the scoring with an injury time penalty. COMMONS: SIGNING RAMSEY COULD BE A MISTAKE

When Wales international midfielder Aaron Ramsey knew that his time at Juventus was coming to an end, the best decision was for him to try and look for a new club. While several clubs were interested in acquiring his services, he only accepted Rangers’ proposal and signed for the Scottish Premiership title winners. However, that may not have been the best decision because there have now been some ill comments made about his transfer to the league title holders.

The Ibrox outfit brought the Welshman in from Juventus on loan during the January transfer window, but he has featured for only 94 minutes since the move. Ramsey has been plagued with injuries throughout his career and he quickly picked up a fresh one following his move to Glasgow. Commons is not denying Ramsey’s talent, but he believes the signing could turn out to be a waste of time for both parties. Continue reading COMMONS: SIGNING RAMSEY COULD BE A MISTAKE

THE BIGGEST FLOP IN SERIE A

The Juventus midfielder beat fellow teammate Arthur Melo to the Calcio Bidone which is the award for the biggest flop in Serie A. The Biaconeri time in Turin has been largely disappointing with injuries and a massive loss of form the biggest culprit.

The Welshman has played in just three league games all season and has no attacking return to shoe for his effort. The award which is a yearly award that is adjudged by votes saw Ramsey pull up 2,686 votes to beat Lazio frontman Muriqi who finished with 2,567 votes.

Muriqi who was a €20m signing for Lazio from Fenerbache in 2020 has seen just two goals in almost 50 appearances for his team. The Kosovan international is looking for a move to West Brom, with hopes that it would lead to an end to his nightmare time at Lazio so far.

Though Juventus can thank their stars that Ramsey was a free agent from Arsenal in 2019. The same cannot be said for Arthur Melo that finished third with 1,794 votes. The Brazilian time in the white and black of Juventus has been so bad that key figures at the club would be wondering why they made such a deal with Barcelona. Melo cost Juventus in excess of €70m but has not been able to hold in starting berth since he made the switch in 2020.

Ramsey would definitely not be keen on this kind of attention as he tries to fight his way back into the hearts of the Biaconeri faithful. The Juventus outcast would hope to add minutes to the measly 116 minutes that he has managed all season. For now, he has to make do with the fact that his time has been a disaster, and the Calcio Bidone is what he deserves.

RAMSEY SET TO LEAVE JUVE IN THE SUMMER

Several unconfirmed reports are currently making the rounds that Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.

The Wales international midfielder is fed up with life in Turin and has been said to be keen to secure a move away from the Old Lady. After several weeks of rumors, Juventus, Ramsey, and Rangers all agreed for the player to switch clubs and leagues, as he left Italy to join the current champions of the Scottish Premiership.

His relationship with Juve manager Maximiliano Allegri has not gone any better since the Italian tactician returned to occupy the managerial role at the club and former Arsenal star, Ramsey, has been severely deprived of minutes this season. There were several clubs interested in signing the midfielder but it took a while for him to accept Rangers’ proposal because their suited his demands. Allegri would, however, be missing Ramsey’s services presently as the Juventus team is currently without several star players, with a host of them out with different injuries.

In their 1-1 draw with Villarreal in their UEFA Champions League knockout clash on Tuesday night, Juve fielded a rather weak team without their star players and it was telling how they lacked the needed steel in midfield.

Ramsey will spend the rest of the season at Rangers but according to reports, he is interested in making the deal a permanent one and not return to become a Juventus player. However, that would depend largely on his ability to convince the Rangers chiefs that he has what it takes to earn a permanent contract. If he fails to convince them, however, he could be assessing other options as long as he leaves Juventus permanently in the summer transfer window.
