Gary Neville gives reason behind Aaron Ramsey’s anticipated Arsenal exit

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes manager Unai Emery is aiming to change the mentality at Arsenal by parting ways with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey at the end of the season. Ramsey is widely expected to leave the Gunners on a free when his contract expires in the summer but he could be joined by Ozil, who has dropped down the pecking order under the Spanish tactician.

In a report covered by The Mail, the former United right-back highlighted that Emery needs at least four to five transfer windows to sort out the mess at the north London side. He added that the Spaniard wants players, who can transform the club to the next level and the likes of Ozil and Ramsey may not fit into the scheme of things.

He added that the Spaniard wants players, who can transform the club to the next level and the likes of Ozil and Ramsey may not fit into the scheme of things.

He said: “Emery needs four or five transfer windows to get things right. It does not surprise me that Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are on the way out. Emery wants players that can transform the club, so he has to be able to ship players out, to be able to correct things. It is like a cultural shift, a big mentality shift. But he needs to do that and needs time.”

“Both Ozil and Ramsey have found themselves on the bench regularly during the current season“ but the latter has got the chance to impress from the starting lineup whenever the big games have come about. Nonetheless, Ramsey’s future appears sorted in advance and reports have recently indicated that the Welshman has already completed the first part of the medical ahead of “the proposed Bosman move“ to Juventus during the summer.

Ozil, on the other hand, could have left the Gunners during the winter transfer window itself as Paris Saint-Germain were keen on landing him. The World Cup winner was wanted by the French champions on a temporary deal, though the attacker snubbed their advances in order to fight for his Gunners future.

Paul Merson slams Arsenal’s ‘criminal’ handling of Aaron Ramsey’s contract

Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Paul Merson has slammed the Gunners for criminally handling the contract situation of Aaron Ramsey. The Wales international currently has six months remaining on his deal with the Gunners and he has also been told that an extension won’t be happening beyond the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson termed the Gunners’ decision as ‘stupid’ and indicated that they should not let a player of Ramsey’s calibre leave the Emirates. He added that the Welshman provides heaps of Premier League experience and replacing him would require more finances while the new recruit will need time to adjust.

He added that the Welshman provides heaps of Premier League experience and replacing him would require more finances while the new recruit will need time to adjust.

He said: ““It’s stupidity from Arsenal to allow someone of Ramsey’s quality to let their contract run down“. It’s yet another player after Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott. Players’ contracts come to an end then they “all leave on frees“. In footballing terms, it’s criminal. It’s like buying an £80m house, waiting for the leasehold to run out and losing the house. Arsenal had a player in Ramsey that was proven. Now they’ve got to go and get someone that probably hasn’t played in the Premier League and will need time to adjust. It’s poor.”

Ramsey was once more on the bench for the London derby against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon where the Gunners suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat. The Welshman was lively after being brought onat the hour markbut some poor finishing from the Gunners frontmen meant that they suffered a rare loss at the hands of the Hammers.
Arsenal are currently six points behind Chelsea in the race for the fourth position and they could potentially be leapfrogged by Manchester United for the fifth spot this weekend, should the Red Devils get the better of Tottenham Hotspur on the road. Next up, the Gunners are scheduled to host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium and the match could make or break their top-four prospects.
