Unai Emery explains Aaron Ramsey’s substitution versus Newcastle United

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed that midfielder Aaron Ramsey has personally asked to be substituted during the backend of the Premier League clash against Newcastle United. The north London club secured their third-straight league win after outclassing the Magpies by a 2-1 score but Ramsey could not last the whole game as he was subbed in the 80th minute.

Speaking after the clash, Emery appeared to blame Wales boss Ryan Giggs for using Aaron Ramsey for the entire 90 minutes of both Nations League games and suggested that had played a role in the fatigue experienced by the midfielder, he said: “He played with the national team too much, today he played 80 minutes and he asked to change. It was not a big problem, but he was tired to continue. I think it’s no problem.”

It was not a big problem, but he was tired to continue. I think it’s no problem.”

Meanwhile, Emery admitted that he could make changes for the upcoming Europa League opener against Ukrainians Vorskla, though he would still want a strong performance on the night, he added: “Yes, normally we are going to change and use a lot of players for different competitions. But I am only thinking about the best performance for Thursday. Every competition for me I have respect for and want to do the best for.”

“ Summer signings Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner should all make their maiden Gunners starts on “
Thursday night but the game could be most defining for the former, who has sat on the bench since the season begun. Much was expected of“Leno after making the “ switch from Bayer Leverkusen in June but he has since not made a competitive appearance with Petr Cech favoured for the Premier League duties.

Nonetheless, Leno should make his bow against Vorskla in midweek and hopefully, he can put in a solid performance which may encourage Emery to consider him for Premier League action. Leno has been previously reported to have made a blunder during a pre-season game against Brentford and this may have influenced Emery’s decision to stick with Cech for the number one role.

Alexandre Lacazette urges Aaron Ramsey to stay put with Arsenal

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has urged teammate Aaron Ramsey to stay put and sign a new contract with the north London giants. The Wales international has just a year remaining on his existing deal with the Gunners and talks over an extension are yet to proceed beyond the initial stage.

As such, there has been the speculation that the Gunners may offload him before the transfer deadline but Lacazette firmly believes the Welshman should extend his contract, he said:”Ramsey is really important. Aaron is there for maybe 10 years, he’s a legend in the club so we have to be respectful for everything he has done. Of course, with his quality he can help the team to be better. He’s an example for all the young players. Of course we need Aaron in the team.”

Earlier this week, Ramsey revealed that he is unsure whether he would be able to extend his contract with the Gunners but the faithful will be hoping that that the Welshman is able to reach an agreement a.s the club have already lost a fan favourite in the form of Jack Wilshere to West Ham United this summer.

Wilshere managed to make 38 appearances over the course of the previous campaign but he nevertheless rejected the prospect of extending his Gunners contract after new manager Unai Emery refused to assure him of a regular gametime. Compared to this, Ramsey is in a much better position with Emery having the faith in his ability but the contractual terms are, for now, proving the stumbling block in a probable extension.

Ramsey is presently on a weekly wage of £110,000-a-week and he is said to be eyeing a contract worth around £180,000-a-week which would put him on par with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined the Gunners during the 2018 winter transfer window.
