Unai Emery wants Arsenal to extend Aaron Ramsey’s contract

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has indicated that Aaron Ramsey remains an important player for him next season and he is eager for the club’s hierarchy to sort out his future. The Wales international is presently the Gunners’ longest-serving player after having spent over a decade but his future remains uncertain with his contract expiring in 12 months’ time.

Speaking in a news conference, Emery highlighted the importance of the Welshman to his plans and admitted that he has been impressed with the midfielder’s application in training, he said: “This is one question for the player and for the club. In my opinion, I’ve said to Ivan [Gazidis], Raul [Sanllehi] and Sven [Mislintat] that I think he’s an important player for me. I’m very happy with him. For me, every day, every training session, he has the ambition I want. He’s working with a quality, the type of ability that I want. I want to work with him.”

Ramsey had divided opinion among the supporters owing to his mixed performances on the playing field but over the past few seasons, he has managed to improve on his consistency with him being named the club’s Player of the Year last term. As a result, it has been the club’s priority to extend his stay after losing Jack Wilshere on a free to West Ham United and the new few weeks could be critical to whether the Welshman stays put with the club.

Arsenal are keen on avoiding the mistake from last term where the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Wilshere were permitted to start the season without renewing their contracts and the failure to negotiate a fresh contract with Ramsey may urge them to part ways with his services. Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi has been earmarked as a potential replacement, should the Welshman leave theEmirates.

Arsenal ‘positive’ of agreeing fresh contract with Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal are reportedly confident of sorting out a fresh contract with Aaron Ramseybefore the close of the summer transfer window. The Wales international has already been offered a significant rise on his current £100,000-a-week wages with new boss Unai Emery keen on building the squad around the Welshman.

According to The Telegraph, the Gunners’ hierarchy have already placed a contract renewal on the table and they are currently waiting for a reply from the 27-year-old. Should the response be negative, the north London club are likely to offload the Welshman during the summer as they are keen to avoid him from entering the final year of his contract.
Ramsey has enjoyed a hot-and-cold relationship with the club’s faithful over the past decade but during this period, he has also provided some wonderful moments including the FA Cup winning goals in 2014 and 2017. Meanwhile, the Welshman has also become the club’s highest scoring central midfielder in history and the majority of the supporters are now keen for him to stay.

As such, The Telegraph adds that there are positive vibes that the midfielder will eventually commit his future after he most recently spoke about the excitement of playing under Emery. Following the close of the campaign, Ramsey had been with Wales for an international friendly against Mexico, where he highlighted the ambition to work under the former Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Arsenal don’t seem to have a similar control over the future of Jack Wilshere, who has just one month left on his contract. The Englishman has already dropped possible exit hints on social media of late and there are suggestions that he could head to Juventus on a free transfer this summer. The Bianconeri have offered a four-year deal to the Gunners graduate and he could be partnered alongside Emre Can at the heart of the club’s midfield.

Arsene Wenger admits he won’t manage another English club

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he would not consider another managerial job in England as it could be a sense of betrayal to his former club Arsenal. The Frenchman ended his 22-year association with the Gunners last week after he oversaw a 1-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Since then, the Frenchman has been answering questions related to his long-standing Gunners career and when asked about the prospect of managing another English outfit, he said: “It will be very difficult for me [without Arsenal. At the moment if I want to continue to work, I think I have to move out of the country, because my gut feeling at the moment is that I would feel I would betray my club by staying in England. People might feel that I’ve betrayed what I’ve built here. That is the problem I face at the moment. My club is here, my heart is here and will be forever. As I said in my speech on the pitch after the Burnley game, I’m a fan above all.”

Despite the Frenchman’s departure, the Gunners are not in a rush to appoint his successor, though a decision is expected to be made before this summer’s World Cup in Russia. According to reports, former Gunner Mikel Arteta, who is currently an assistant with Manchester City, is the leading candidate for the role, though the move could pose a risk with the Spaniard having no experience of managing a club.

Nevertheless, whoever comes on board may not have the luxury of making transfer decisions by their own with the club having recruited Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi for the job. The former was influential towards the Gunners’ signing during the winter period and he is likely to be handed a similar role ahead of the summer, where the club are planning an overhaul of the defence.
